OIPA International continues to be in touch with local member league associations, but also to cooperate with those in the neighbouring countries, at the moment in Romania with Sava’s Safe Haven and Casa Lui Patrocle, while in Poland with Viva!Poland and Fondacia ODIN. Volunteers still work daily at the borders to assist refugees and their pets and this can be done also thanks to your help.

AIDS FOR UKRANIAN ANIMALS IN ROMANIA

SAVA’S SAFE HAVEN

Sava’s Safe Haven team is at the borders of Isaceea every day to welcome refugees who arrive with their pets. We remind you that just last week they did their utmost to help a woman who fled with her 12 dogs from Odessa, driving her to Bucharest where she found an accommodation for her and the dogs. They have recently rescued an abandoned 4-year-old dog at the border. He was very dirty, so they took him to the vet for a check-up and for fixing his shaggy coat. He is now fostered in the mobile unit they have been able to purchase few weeks ago. He is a very sweet dog and is looking for adoption.

The mobile unit is equipped with an internal heating system because animals from Ukraine that they are now hosting are animals used to live indoors, in a warm and safe environment, as they are not strays. Alexandra told us that some owners, often single men, have asked them to foster their pets until the end of the war, while others have asked to foster them for a few days or weeks while they are looking for an accommodation that can accept animals or until their pet documents would be ready.

Thanks to your donations, OIPA was able to help Sava’s offer these animals a warm and protected place where they can be temporarily fostered and guarantee the economic resources necessary to buy food, bowls, pet carriers, medicines, tests and other supplies that are needed also for roaming strays at the borders.

CASA LUI PATROCLE

While of Sava’s Safe Haven team is working at the border of Isaceea (South of Romania), another partner of OIPA, Casa Lui Patrocle makes long daily shifts with its team in the North of Romania to give support and assistance to Ukrainian families that are crossing the border at Vama Siret.

The association Casa Lui Patrocle is located in Suceava, 40 km away from the border with Ukraine. The team welcomes refugees with their animals on a daily basis, providing everything they need from food, to pet carriers, coats, leashes, bowls, as well as offering first veterinary aid care, including vaccinations and help in filling out pet passports and documents directly on site. They are equipped with an ambulance and supported by veterinary staff.

Teofana, one of the sweet girl we are in regular contact with, tells us that crossing Ukraine is getting every day much more difficult, check points are everywhere (almost one every 100 mt) and they don’t allow you to stay inside a shelter for more than 2 hours.

The team was able to deliver 2 tons of food, purchased also with OIPA donations, to a shelter near Chernivtsi. A part of the entire delivery will be donated and distributed to other needy shelters in Kiev, Odessa and Kharkov.

We’ll continue to provide Casa Lui Patrocle the help they need most on the basis of the shortage of supplies and we’ll contribute to buy food for Ukrainian shelters. Tomorrow 60 small/medium sized pet carriers will be delivered and soon other coats for small dogs, harnesses and leashes.

VIVA!POLAND and Fundacja ODIN

OIPA International is also active with its member leagues and partners in Poland. We are cooperating with Viva! Poland, which has 20 reception points in Warsaw and needs help for pet carriers, kennels, bowls, litters, sands, foods to provide to refugees with animals as well as help for veterinary care and treatment of animals coming from Ukraine.

Meanwhile together with our great member league association Fundacja ODIN, which deals in this emergency with transport of animals from Ukraine to Poland , we are organizing delivery of food and supplies that will arrive to OIPA’s member league associations Happy Paw, KSPA Lucky Strand and UA Animals. Yesterday a truck with 3 tons of food and other needed material (4 pallets and 10 boxes in total) left from Gdynia with destination L’Viv. We’ve provided a supply of wet and dry food for dogs and cats, transport cages, litters and trays but we’re preparing a much bigger delivery in the coming days.

THERE’S NO EXCUSE FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY! JUSTICE FOR PANTHER, A COMMUNITY CAT IN SINGAPORE https://www.oipainternational.org/justice-for-panther-cat-singapore/ Wed, 28 Dec 2022 13:20:58 +0000 https://www.oipainternational.org/?p=16647 L'articolo THERE’S NO EXCUSE FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY! JUSTICE FOR PANTHER, A COMMUNITY CAT IN SINGAPORE proviene da OIPA.

]]>

On 14 December 2022, a community cat was brutally thrown down from the 22nd floor of a building at Blk 186 Boon Lay Avenue, Singapore, by a young boy (10-15 years old – the age is not clear). The footage released to the public has clearly evidenced an act of extreme cruelty. The boy lured the community cat from the 1st floor and took the animal into the lift up to the 22nd floor. Thereafter, the perpetrator carried the cat and tossed it off the corridor ledge next to the lift.

The cat didn’t survive. A terrible death reserved to an innocent sentient.

There is no excuse for animal cruelty, no matter the age of the perpetrator. Animals deserve to be treated with respect and kindness, and those who abuse or cause them suffering and death must be held accountable for their actions.

OIPA demands justice for Panther and supports animal lovers in Singapore urging the Authorities involved, Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) and Singapore Police Force (SPF), to fully investigate.

Under the Animal and Birds Act 1965 Section 42;

A person commits animal cruelty if:

 • causes or allows any unnecessary physical or psychological pain or suffering to any animal by beating, kicking, torturing, ill-treating or terrifying the animal;
 • makes a sick or unfit animal work; or
 • is involved in any business or incident related to animal fighting (e.g. dogfighting or cockfighting).

Any person found guilty of animal cruelty faces a fine of up to $15,000, and/or imprisonment for up to 18 months. In the case of subsequent offences, the offender faces a fine of up to $30,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 3 years.

We call on the relevant Authorities (read here Open letter_Episode of Animal Cruelty_Singapore_29122022) to enforce the Animal and Birds Act 1965 tightening laws on animal cruelty, and we hope that this act will be punished. Parents should teach their children respect and compassion towards all other living beings and not justify cruelty towards what they consider “just an animal”. Many research findings have actually demonstrated the direct link existing between acts of Cruelty to Animals and violence toward humans. If a minor is already capable of such an act, he will be likely to cause pain and suffering to his human fellows in the future.

Join us and demand justice for Panther, innocent victim of human cruelty!

✍️ Sign the petition of animal lovers in Singapore and help them send a message that animal abuse will not be tolerated in the country.

📲 Share a photo on your Instagram page with hashtag #justiceforpanther and tagging @kshanmugam @desmond.lee to spread the voice and raise awareness, so that Panther’s death will not be vain.

Our International Representative in Islamabad, Dr. Sohaib Ahmed is a young veterinarian who works in a clinic and treats stray animals for free during his spare time. Residents call him when they see injured or poisoned animals on streets knowing that he will try to reach and treat them as early as possible to save their lives.

Recently he has begun a vaccination drive for strays starting from eight 3-month-old puppies living next to his street. Thanks to the donations of kind-hearted friends, relatives and neighbours core and rabies vaccines have been bought and dogs finally received their 1st shot. Furthermore, a very gentle neighbour offered his home backyard space to keep the puppies for 21 days to complete safely their 2nd shot vaccination and deworming procedure.

To reduce rabies cases and the spreading of diseases the only effective way is a vaccination drive for stray and owned animals, which is one of the main project of our delegation in Islamabad.

Animals should not be bought and given as (Christmas🎄) presents 🎁. They are sentient beings and deserve our best lifelong commitment for all their lives.

A family should seriously ponder the decision to welcome a new member. It shouldn’t be an impulsive purchase. Is the family truly prepared? Does the family have enough time to spend with the pet? Are there enough financial resources to employ for food and vet care? And many other questions need to be answered.

If you don’t want to contribute and increase the number of unwanted animals abandoned, remember that ☝️ NO ANIMAL IS A TOY TO BE GIVEN AS GIFT

As we all move forward, it is hard even to imagine how people and animals can live in prolonged fear and terror of war.

In order not to leave animals of Ukraine alone and to support all those people who haven’t left the country to take care of them with unconditional love, OIPA International has never ceased to offer support and respond to the many requests for help received in recent months the best possible way.

Between June and November, thanks to our project “Ukrainian Emergency” and the cooperation with local member leagues (Happy Paw, KSPA Lucky Strand, Generation 4) more than 14 tons of food, medicines and other materials were distributed to over 5,000 animals in 17 regions of the country. Aid has reached 30 shelters, some associations, many volunteers who look after stray and abandoned animals and owners in difficulty with their four-legged friends.

To ensure that war does not become something normal and not to forget those who are suffering, OIPA International will continue to help these animals and those who are taking care of them.

STRAY CATS OF DUBAI RECEIVE AN EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT: FOOD DELIVERED AND DISTRIBUTED WITH OUR PROJECT “SAVE A STRAY” https://www.oipainternational.org/christmas-present-for-stray-cats-in-dubai/ Tue, 20 Dec 2022 14:54:42 +0000 https://www.oipainternational.org/?p=16555 L'articolo STRAY CATS OF DUBAI RECEIVE AN EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT: FOOD DELIVERED AND DISTRIBUTED WITH OUR PROJECT “SAVE A STRAY” proviene da OIPA.

]]>

There are no holidays for cats in Dubai as there are no moments of relax for all the other strays across the world. Street animals try to survive day after day with the only hope to find something to eat or to avoid captures from which they will often never return.

OIPA International reported the cruel reality experienced by strays in Dubai and the rest of the Emirates many times. Local authorities literally prefer to leave cats starving to death as a solution to keep their number under control rather than allocating financial resources to implement neutering/spaying programmes. Once cats are caught by pest control companies, they disappeared. Dumped away from the city or abandoned in the desert with no access to food and water and with no one able to relieve their pain and suffering.

It is not that difficult to see notices and announcements posted in different residential areas warning residents and tourists to not feed stray cats to avoid fines and prosecutions.

As celebration of the International Cat Day last August, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment published The UAE National Invasive Species Strategy and Action Plan 2022 – 2026.pdf (1) – aimed at preserving local biodiversity by regulating and mitigating the impact of invasive species on the environment in the UAE, including stray cats on the list! An approach that goes to justify the inhumane, cruel, ethically unacceptable and totally ineffective method of handling with the stray cats population in the entire United Arab Emirates.

Luckily, there are volunteers so devoted to animals that prefer to risk than leaving their tailed friends starving to death.

A few weeks ago, OIPA International provided 200 kg of dry and canned food for cats helping a volunteer who takes care of feline colonies in abandoned areas of Dubai fill their bellies at least for a little while. An early Christmas present for these invisible who live among the waste and the indifference of people.

❤️ With a chain of love and supporting our project “Save a Stray”, we could do much more for animals who have nothing! ❤️

WAG WAG LAUNCHES AN APPEAL ASKING FOR HELP: “WE NEED TO FIND SAFE HOMES ABROAD FOR THE CATS WE SAVED FROM CERTAIN DEATH” https://www.oipainternational.org/wagwag-asks-for-help-for-their-cats/ Tue, 13 Dec 2022 13:53:56 +0000 https://www.oipainternational.org/?p=16493 L'articolo WAG WAG LAUNCHES AN APPEAL ASKING FOR HELP: “WE NEED TO FIND SAFE HOMES ABROAD FOR THE CATS WE SAVED FROM CERTAIN DEATH” proviene da OIPA.

Today, we want to launch a urgent appeal on behalf of our member league association Wag Wag from Bosnia Herzegovina that contacted us asking for help.

The number of cats they saved from the streets and from certain death has highly increased leading as a result the exponential growth of the caring costs for these animals. WagWag doesn’t have shelter and all the animals are fostered in paid private accommodations.

The association is urgently looking for organizations that could help them take over a certain number of cats finding for them new and safe homes abroad. One of the main reasons they strive to adopt abroad and in countries where animals are more legally protected is the local lack of awareness and education about animal care, so owners often get rid of their pets because they are not ready to take responsibilities. The other problem is related to the slow adoption rate in Bosnia, the lack of general information, and the fact that many animals live in small boxes and inhumane environments.

If you are an association or organization outside Bosnia and Herzegovina willing to help or you are thinking about a responsible adoption from abroad 👉 contact directly WagWag and ask for information

Corsica is known as the island of beauty, however behind the spectacular landscape of this beautiful place hides the neglect and suffering of many stray cats. No one care about them, neither local institutions that continue not to implement spaying and neutering programmes nor people who are not particularly sensitive and compassionate towards community cats.

Luckily, our volunteers in Corsica are daily committed to guarantee the well-being of cats who live in different feral colonies trying to improve their living conditions at their own costs. They care about feeding, spaying and neutering, and give veterinary assistance to 200 cats who live in colonies located in different tourist resorts between Aléria and Moriani Plage, specifically in Bravone, Alistro and Prunete, at Village Eucaliptus, Corsicana, Corsica Natura, and Tropca.

The costs for food, sterilizations, fostering and veterinary assistance are entirely covered by our volunteers who rely solely on donations. Unfortunately, if they are not supported enough it becomes hard to cope with all expenses and continue to assist constantly all these tails.

If you want to guarantee them a future, support our delegation in Corsica with a donation
