1.2 ton of pet food has been delivered to our delegation in Corsica. 21 bags of dry food for dogs and 42 bags of dry food for cats. Our representative and tireless volunteer Orazio can now feed the cat colonies (120+ cats) he takes care of in 11 different tourist resorts of the Upper Corse (Haute Corse) in the months to come. Dog food will be instead offered to the 10 four paws owned by Marcel, a man living in precarious conditions and to other dogs in need.

Corsica is known as the island of beauty, however behind the spectacular landscape of this beautiful place hides the neglect and suffering of many stray cats. No one care about them, neither local institutions that continue not to implement spaying and neutering programmes nor people who are not particularly sensitive and compassionate towards community cats.

Luckily, our volunteers in Corsica are daily committed to guarantee the well-being of cats who live in different feral colonies trying to improve their living conditions at their own costs. They care about feeding, spaying and neutering, and give veterinary assistance to 200 cats who live in colonies located in different tourist resorts between Aléria and Moriani Plage, specifically in Bravone, Alistro and Prunete, at Village Eucaliptus, Corsicana, Corsica Natura, and Tropca.

The costs for food, sterilizations, fostering and veterinary assistance are entirely covered by our volunteers who rely solely on donations. Unfortunately, if they are not supported enough it becomes hard to cope with all expenses and continue to assist constantly all these tails.

If you want to guarantee them a future, support our delegation in Corsica with a donation

Many animals wouldn’t have the chance to survive without the precious support of volunteers that every single day are on site to rescue those injured and abandoned.

On the French island of Corse, the situation of stray cats is very critical. Their number continues to increase exponentially as consequence of the many litters abandoned. This is due to the lack of sterilization activities, that are not carried out by local institutions and also by the same owners. OIPA volunteers put all their efforts and money to guarantee those cats a better quality of life and the only help they get comes from donations of animal lovers.

Thanks to your donations, OIPA Corse had the chance to sterilize some of the roaming cats they feed and care and rush to the vet for saving Penelope’s life.

Penelope was found suffering with a deep wound on the neck probably caused by a dog’s bite. The neck was swollen and the injury infected, but with an emergency surgery and a post-surgery treatment, this beauty is now slowly recovering.

In addition, volunteers recently rescued two kittens of few days that were abandoned inside a carton box. The female was unfortunately unable to pass the night while her little brother, just 220 gr when he was rescued, started to drink from the baby bottle being able to survive and reaching after few weeks more than 700 gr. Pulce (Flea) is now able to eat all alone. He’s very active, he likes playing and being petted and the best news is that he has been recently adopted!

All this wouldn’t be possible without your help! The life of many animals is saved thanks to the good-heartedness of animal lovers.

You can continue to support the activities of OIPA Corse and save the life of many other cats.

UPDATE DECEMBER 2021

Thanks to the project “Save a Stray”, OIPA provided additional support to its delegation in Corse. Three female stray cats have been sterilized and one male neutered. Other stray cats in need received antibiotics, topical medications, urinary infection treatments, eye drops, blood and FIV/FELV tests. More than 130 kg of good quality dry food for sterilized cats was also purchased.

Today we want to share a good news ❤️

Three pallet of dry food have been supplied to the over 120 stray cats who live in 11 different communities on the area of Haute-Corse thanks to the donations received for our local delegation.

OIPA Corse volunteers work hard on site to make the life of many street cats easier and provinding them food, love, daily care as well as vet examinations and sterilization when needed. Unfortunately, many people on the island still consider street cats as “something to avoid” even if the animals live peaceful and don’t hurt anyone.

Louise, Roki, Thelma, Leon and all their friends want to thank who have contributed to fill their belly! ❤️🙏🐱

Not only cats and dogs deserve care and love!

Many people use to think that love for animals could rise exclusively for pets who share the home with us, but there are life stories that can teach us much more and show that the relationship between humans and animals can be so special to go beyond any speciesism.

As it happened to a man and his companion animals, a touching love story that has warmed the heart of OIPA Corsica’s volunteers and have had a strong impact on them. Volunteers couldn’t turn back and have decided to lend a hand.

They have been helping a needy man who lives in solitude and in precarious conditions with his animals (10 dogs, a cow and a donkey) for already two months. His home is an old caravan without water and electricity placed in the outskirts of the city and not having economic resources even for himself, OIPA Corsica has decided to support him providing food for his animals. Volunteers collect weekly big bags of unsold bread from bakeries and with some pet food collection, they are able to supply him every 15-20 days enough food to support his animals for some weeks, until the next journey will come. Last week, volunteers brought him four huge bags of bread and approximately 120 kg of dry and wet food for his 10 dogs, Mirelle the cow and Asterix the donkey.

The love that Mr. Marcel feels for all his animals is something truly tangible and pure. His animals are the reason for him to smile, to live and to hope . Municipality tried to evict Marcel from the public land occupied with his caravan offering him a different housing solution, but he immediately refused the proposal, as he couldn’t have the chance to bring his beloved animals with him.

Marcel said that he would never leave his animals alone, no matter what and no matter why.

Stray cats do not have an easy life in the French island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea. No one care about and locals mainly see them as annoying problem to avoid and not as living beings in need of care and protection. Moreover, people not particularly sensitive use brutal methods not to have cats around by killing or poisoning them.

The number of community cats is out of control and not just because the rate of abandonment is high, but the primary reason of increase is the lack of sterilization activities.

Local institutions, informed many times about the difficult reality of strays, have been totally unresponsive for now and not interested in providing “tools” useful and necessary at least to band-aid the problem. All over the island, there is not even a public vet service or a shelter to host cats in need of care.

Volunteers of OIPA Corsica have been working in the area of Haute-Corse for many years to help community cats left alone by feeding, caring and sterilizing them. They look after more than 120 cats in 11 different communities distributed throughout the territory and the last month they foster 8 strays who couldn’t live free as in need of specific medical treatments.

OIPA Corsica promotes a sterilization program carried out mainly with volunteers’ financial resources. Sometimes our delegation receives help with “vouchers” but there are so many cats in need that those aids are not enough to cover all expenses.

Next month, 40/45 cats are supposed to be spayed and neutered and volunteers hope this time, following a letter sent to the Major, in the good heart of institutions and their will to support them with food, sterilization activities and public awareness over the existing situation of community cats on the island.

Last month, volunteers offered food support to a person in great economic difficulties who lived camped in an old caravan without water and electricity on the outskirts of a town. They bought food for his 15 dogs, a donkey and a cow. Fortunately, the cow managed to graze in the surrounding countryside, but dogs and donkey were fed also with the help of two bakeries that supplied weekly bags of unsold dry bread.

Other activities of OIPA Corsica include the collection of food in supermarkets and some rescue activities as in the case of Blanca, a community white cat who volunteers are trying to save as she certainly suffers from a cancerous form on both ears and needs a surgery.
