With the signature of President Karol Nawrocki, Poland has officially banned animal farming for fur production, becoming the eighteenth country in the European Union to adopt such a law.

The International Organization for Animal Protection (IOPA) fully supports this decision, which finally puts an end to an anachronistic and extremely cruel production. Poland was the leading fur producer in Europe and the second largest in the world, and approximately three million minks, foxes, raccoon dogs, and chinchillas were bred and killed for their fur every year. This decision marks a historic turning point in the protection of animal rights.

“If even a country that has always been at the center of the fur industry chooses to put an end to it, it means that Europe’s conscience is awakening: now is the time for all countries that still produce fur to follow Poland’s example without hesitation.”
Massimo Pradella, President of OIPA ETS International Headquarters

OIPA therefore appeals to all European institutions and governments to finally ban the farming of animals for fur production across the continent, hoping for a near future marked by respect for animals and a cruelty-free fashion.
