HELP THE ANIMALS AFFECTED BY FLOODS IN NEPAL!

Devastating floods and mudslides have left animals injured, displaced and without food. OIPA’s Member League Voice of Animal Nepal is mobilising to help them survive.

Homes have been swept away. Roads and bridges have collapsed. Entire communities have been buried under mud and debris.

And amid this devastation, countless animals have disappeared.

Livestock have been swept away or trapped in the mud. Dogs and cats have fled in terror, becoming separated from the people who care for them. The animals that survived are frightened, hungry and exposed to injuries and disease.

They urgently need our help.

OIPA ETS  is launching an international emergency appeal in support of its Member League Voice of Animal Nepal (VOAN), which is preparing to rescue, treat and feed animals affected by the disaster.

A DISASTER FAR WORSE THAN PHOTOS CAN SHOW

VOAN’s emergency team travelled to Nuwakot to assess the situation and identify the most urgent needs of animals and affected communities.

Vast areas were covered by mud, silt and debris. Homes, schools and public buildings were severely damaged or partially buried. Settlements around Trishuli, Dhunge Bazaar and Devighat suffered extensive destruction, with buildings swept away or left dangerously exposed by riverbank erosion.

Rasuwa, one of the worst-affected districts, remains inaccessible by road because access routes have been destroyed or have collapsed.

ANIMALS ARE THE INVISIBLE VICTIMS OF THIS EMERGENCY

The full impact on animals cannot yet be measured.

Many livestock animals are believed to have drowned, been buried beneath the mud or become separated from their owners. Surviving animals have lost access to pasture, stored feed and clean water.

Community dogs and cats have scattered into unfamiliar areas after fleeing the floodwaters. Many are frightened and severely traumatised. Some dogs encountered by VOAN’s team were too terrified to allow rescuers to approach them.

At this stage, many areas remain inaccessible and animals continue to be dispersed throughout the disaster zone. For this reason, VOAN will not release unverified casualty figures.

What is already clear, however, is that animals are suffering and urgent action is needed.

WHAT THE EMERGENCY TEAM WILL DO

The emergency team will work to:

  • Locate, rescue and safely transport animals in danger;
  • Reach communities that are currently cut off by mud and floodwater;
  • Provide emergency veterinary treatment and essential medicines;
  • Distribute food and clean water to displaced dogs and cats;
  • Deliver emergency feed to surviving livestock;
  • Create temporary safe spaces for injured and displaced animals;
  • Vaccinate animals against rabies and prevent the spread of disease;
  • Reunite rescued animals with their families whenever possible;
  • Help vulnerable families continue caring for their animals;
  • Assess animal-health and public-health risks;
  • Coordinate with communities and local authorities on longer-term recovery.

HOW YOUR DONATION WILL HELP

VOAN organization needs USD 15,000–20,000 to support its emergency response during the first 60 days and assist approximately 200–250 animals.

Your donation will help provide:

Animal rescue and safe transportation;

Veterinary treatment, medicines and medical supplies;

Food and clean water for displaced animals;

Emergency feed for livestock;

Temporary shelter and protection;

Rabies vaccination and disease prevention;

Essential equipment and field-response costs.

HELP ANIMALS IN NEPAL!

These animals have survived floods, mudslides and the destruction of their homes. Now they urgently need food, treatment and protection.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will help VOAN’s team reach an animal in need and support a family struggling to recover.

OIPA Italy is intensifying its opposition to Italy’s proposed hunting bill, commonly referred to as the DDL Caccia, currently under examination by the Italian Parliament as Bill No. C.2984 (formerly Senate Bill No. 552). According to OIPA, the proposal would significantly weaken existing wildlife protection measures, increase hunting pressure on numerous species, and raise concerns regarding public safety and compliance with European environmental legislation.

As part of its institutional advocacy, OIPA Italy was officially invited to present its position before the Agriculture Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies on 7 July. During the parliamentary hearing, OIPA outlined its legal, scientific and environmental concerns regarding the proposed reform, arguing that several provisions could conflict with the Italian Constitution, the EU Birds and Habitats Directives, and the principles underpinning Italy’s current Wildlife Protection Act (Law No. 157/1992).

In its submission to Parliament, OIPA warned that the bill would substantially expand hunting opportunities by extending hunting seasons, enlarging the list of huntable species, reducing restrictions on hunting locations, and weakening the role of scientific oversight provided by the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA). The organisation also expressed concern that hunting activities could be allowed in additional public areas, including state forests and other natural environments frequently used by hikers, birdwatchers, photographers and families.
OIPA further stressed that the proposed legislation could expose Italy to infringement proceedings by the European Union if provisions found to be incompatible with EU environmental law were ultimately adopted. The organisation also highlighted the potential economic consequences that such procedures could have for Italian taxpayers.

Beyond its parliamentary engagement, OIPA Italy is playing a leading role in the broader civil society response to the proposal. The organisation is part of a coalition of 57 environmental and animal protection organisations that has been urging Parliament for months not to approve the reform, calling instead for legislation that strengthens wildlife conservation and biodiversity protection.

OIPA has also been among the most active organisations promoting legislative alternatives. It was one of the four founding organisations behind a citizens’ initiative bill calling for the abolition of hunting in Italy. In less than two months, the initiative collected more than 70,000 certified signatures, demonstrating significant public support for stronger wildlife protection.

Alongside its institutional work, OIPA continues to organise and support peaceful public demonstrations across the country. New protests against the proposed hunting reform are scheduled to take place in Verona and Treviso on 24 July, as part of the organisation’s ongoing campaign to raise public awareness and encourage political dialogue.

OIPA remains fully available for constructive and transparent dialogue with institutions, the hunting sector and agricultural stakeholders, the organisation stated during its parliamentary hearing, reaffirming its commitment to science-based policies that protect wildlife, biodiversity and public safety.

Following more than one hundred reports received from concerned citizens worldwide, OIPA ETS  has formally addressed the competent Chinese authorities, embassies, calling for transparency, effective preventive measures and stronger legal protection for animals

OIPA has formally intervened following the exceptionally serious case of cruelty involving a stray mother dog, widely known as Wang Wang, and her newborn puppies in Xinheng Town, Jiedong District, Jieyang, Guangdong Province, China.

According to the information and audiovisual material circulated internationally, four minors allegedly subjected the animals to deliberate and prolonged violence. The mother dog was reportedly beaten, tortured and ultimately set on fire, while her puppies were also killed. The violence was filmed and subsequently disseminated online.

The case has generated widespread shock and concern internationally

In the days following the circulation of the videos, OIPA received more than one hundred reports and appeals from citizens in Italy, across Europe and in several other countries, urging the organisation to intervene and request concrete action from the Chinese authorities.

“We were deeply shocked by the images and information that emerged from this case, as were people across the world. Acts of such extreme cruelty should never occur, and the suffering inflicted on Wang Wang and her puppies cannot be minimised or ignored. A clear and lasting response is needed to prevent similar violence from happening again,” said Massimo Pradella, President of OIPA ETS.

In response, OIPA sent a formal institutional letter to the competent authorities of the People’s Republic of China and embassies requesting detailed information regarding the measures already adopted and calling for a serious, transparent and lasting response.

OIPA requests clarity on the measures involving the minors

While recognising the importance of protecting the identities and rights of the minors involved, OIPA stressed that their young age cannot result in the extreme suffering inflicted upon the animals being minimised.

Cases of such severity require a comprehensive educational, psychological, preventive and supervisory response.

OIPA has therefore requested clarification on whether the minors have undergone, or will undergo, individual psychological and behavioural assessments, whether the educational measures specifically address empathy, violence prevention, responsibility and respect for animals, and what long-term monitoring will be implemented.

The organisation has also requested information regarding the responsibilities assigned to the parents or legal guardians and whether the circumstances that allowed the abuse to continue without timely adult intervention have been examined.

Repeated reports of animal-torture videos from China shared and sold online

The Jieyang case is not the only incident reported to OIPA involving the recording and online dissemination of extreme violence against animals.

Over recent years, the organisation has received numerous reports concerning videos depicting the torture of dogs, cats and other animals, allegedly exchanged, commissioned or sold through online groups and messaging platforms, including Telegram.

While each report must be independently investigated and verified by the competent authorities, the recurrence and similarity of these cases raise serious concerns. When animal cruelty is filmed and circulated for entertainment, recognition or financial gain, it risks becoming normalised, rewarded and imitated, particularly among younger audiences.

OIPA therefore stressed the need for stronger intervention by the Chinese authorities and digital platforms to identify those responsible, remove and prevent the further circulation of such content, investigate any networks involved in its production or monetisation, and introduce more effective preventive and legal measures.

Regarding the Jieyang case, OIPA also requested clarification on whether the original videos and their copies have been removed and whether other individuals may have encouraged, commissioned, facilitated or attempted to profit from the violence.

OIPA calls for stronger protection and preventive action

In its formal communication, OIPA acknowledged the progress made by the People’s Republic of China in areas such as wildlife protection, animal epidemic prevention, animal management and the online protection of minors. However, the organisation stressed the need for a comprehensive national framework expressly addressing the deliberate torture, serious abuse and unjustified killing of companion and stray animals.

OIPA called for stronger and proportionate measures, including clear legal prohibitions, effective sanctions, specific procedures for serious cases involving minors, and action against the recording, sale, monetisation and dissemination of animal-torture content. The organisation also urged closer cooperation among public authorities, educational institutions, digital platforms and animal-protection organisations.

These measures should not be limited to punishment, but should also prevent further violence, protect younger generations from harmful content and intervene before abusive behaviour becomes normalised or escalates.

OIPA also invited the Chinese authorities to cooperate on preventive and educational initiatives for children and young people, including awareness activities focused on empathy, responsibility, violence prevention and respect for animals and all living beings.

The organisation has formally requested a written reply detailing the measures already adopted and any further preventive, educational or legislative action under consideration. OIPA remains available for constructive institutional dialogue and concrete cooperation.

More than thirty community members gathered in the Parker Paint Community for an important awareness initiative organised by OIPA Liberia representative Robert K. Gboluma, Jr to promote responsible pet ownership, animal welfare and the prevention of rabies.

Women, young people, pet owners, local residents, community leaders and representatives of public institutions came together to discuss how every citizen can contribute to protecting animals and creating safer and healthier communities.

The event showed that animal welfare is not only about protecting animals from suffering. It is closely connected to public health, community safety and environmental well-being.

One community, one shared responsibility

Throughout the engagement, participants explored the relationship between human, animal and environmental health through the One Health approach.

Communities are often the first to notice animals in need, possible cases of disease or dangerous situations involving free-roaming dogs. For this reason, their involvement is essential to prevent cruelty, reduce the risk of zoonotic diseases and promote peaceful coexistence between people and animals.

The initiative encouraged participants to see themselves not simply as pet owners or residents, but as active contributors to animal protection and public health.

Working towards a rabies-free Liberia

A central part of the event focused on Liberia’s commitment to the global Zero by 2030 initiative, which aims to eliminate human deaths caused by dog-mediated rabies by 2030.

The technical session was delivered by Mr Abass Biaty, Lofa County Agriculture Coordinator at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Mr Biaty explained that rabies remains preventable, but eliminating it requires coordinated and sustained action. He highlighted the importance of vaccinating dogs on a large scale, reporting animal bites promptly, strengthening community surveillance and improving cooperation among government institutions, civil society organisations and local communities.

The discussion helped participants understand that vaccinating and protecting dogs is also one of the most effective ways to protect human lives.

Responsible ownership begins with daily care

During the session facilitated by Mr Prince Korlubah, participants reflected on what it truly means to be a responsible pet owner.

Caring for an animal means much more than simply keeping it at home. It requires providing proper food, clean water, adequate shelter, vaccination, veterinary assistance and humane treatment.

The discussion also addressed the importance of identifying pets and preventing them from roaming freely, both to protect the animals themselves and to reduce the risk of accidents, conflicts and disease transmission.

Participants were encouraged to share this knowledge with their families and neighbours and to become positive examples within their communities.

Animals deserve protection from cruelty and neglect

The final session, facilitated by Mr Bryant McGill, placed animal welfare at the centre of the discussion.

Participants explored the importance of preventing cruelty, abandonment, abuse and neglect and of recognising animals as sentient beings capable of experiencing pain, fear and distress.

The session also showed that protecting animals has wider benefits. Communities in which animals are treated humanely are generally safer, healthier and better equipped to prevent disease and violence.

Animal welfare is therefore not an isolated issue, but an essential part of sustainable and responsible community development.

A community ready to take action

The engagement ended with a lively question-and-answer session, giving community members the opportunity to share concerns, experiences and ideas.

Participants expressed strong appreciation for the initiative and confirmed their willingness to support future animal welfare activities. They also called for more awareness campaigns, regular community outreach and improved access to veterinary services.

The message that emerged from the event was clear: meaningful change begins within communities.

By bringing citizens, local leaders and institutions together, OIPA Liberia is helping to build a stronger culture of compassion, responsibility and respect for animals, while contributing to the shared goal of a healthier and rabies-free Liberia.

What do young people in Palestine think about stray dogs, and how can science, awareness and compassion help communities address this complex issue?

Thanks to the continuous commitment and coordination of Hala Montaser Mahmoud, OIPA’s Representative in Palestine, OIPA Palestine’s volunteer teams are carrying out awareness initiatives aimed at promoting a more informed, humane and responsible approach to stray dog management.

As part of these efforts, the volunteers recently visited An-Najah National University and Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie in Tulkarm, engaging directly with students and opening a constructive conversation about one of the most important animal welfare challenges affecting local communities.

During the initiative, volunteers conducted in-depth interviews with students from both universities to better understand their perceptions, concerns and personal experiences regarding stray dogs.

These conversations offered valuable insight into how the issue is viewed by younger generations and highlighted the importance of providing accurate and reliable information to overcome fear, prejudice and common misconceptions.

The volunteers did not simply collect opinions. They also shared medical, veterinary and scientific information about humane and effective approaches to managing stray dog populations, highlighting the importance of prevention, responsible pet ownership, vaccination, sterilisation and cooperation between communities, institutions and professionals.

By bringing the discussion directly onto university campuses, OIPA Palestine created a space where students could ask questions, express their concerns and learn more about solutions that protect animal welfare while also safeguarding public health.

As part of the initiative, the team also conducted an in-depth interview with specialist Dr Nemer Khraim, who shared his professional perspective on the issue and explained how medical and scientific approaches can contribute to responsible, humane and sustainable solutions.

The interview will support OIPA Palestine’s online awareness activities, allowing the team to reach a wider audience and promote a more informed, balanced and constructive public debate.

The initiative was coordinated in the field by Mai, Field Initiatives Coordinator for OIPA Palestine, together with Hamza Al-Qub, Diaa, Hamada, Dr. Hazem,  and a dedicated group of volunteers whose commitment and participation made the activities possible.

Their collective work demonstrates how young people, volunteers, universities and professionals can become powerful agents of change.

Through dialogue, education and direct community engagement, OIPA Palestine is helping to replace misinformation with knowledge and fear with a deeper understanding of animals.

Because meaningful change begins with awareness  and every informed voice can help build a safer and more compassionate future for both people and animals.

OIPA ETS is deeply concerned by the alarming reports emerging from Alexandria, Egypt, regarding the treatment of stray dogs during recent population-control operations.

According to information received from local contacts and reports published by the media, hundreds of stray dogs have allegedly been removed from the streets of Alexandria, loaded onto trucks and transported under extreme summer temperatures before being abandoned in remote desert areas without food, water or shelter.

Witnesses and animal welfare organisations have also reported cases of animals suffering from dehydration, injuries and exhaustion following these operations. The images and testimonies circulating in recent days have sparked widespread concern both within Egypt and internationally.

These reports are particularly worrying because they appear to contradict the strategy that the Egyptian Government has publicly presented in recent years to address the country’s stray dog population.

Egypt has repeatedly announced its commitment to implementing humane dog population management through Capture, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return (CNVR) programmes, together with the development of shelters, veterinary care, vaccination campaigns and measures aimed at achieving the national goal of becoming rabies-free by 2030.

If confirmed, the reported abandonment of dogs in desert areas would be fundamentally incompatible with these commitments and with internationally recognised standards for humane dog population management.

The management of stray animals undoubtedly represents a complex challenge involving public health, community safety and animal welfare. However, abandoning animals in isolated areas cannot be considered an effective or humane solution. Sustainable dog population management must be based on sterilisation, vaccination, responsible ownership, education and cooperation between institutions, veterinarians and animal welfare organisations.

In light of the seriousness of the reports received, OIPA is taking action.

The organisation is currently working on a joint institutional initiative, together with other international animal welfare organisations, aimed at addressing the Egyptian Government and the competent authorities. The objective is to request clarification regarding the reported events, encourage full transparency and urge the implementation of humane, science-based and legally compliant methods for managing stray dog populations.

Animal welfare cannot be separated from respect for the law, transparency and responsible public policies.

OIPA believes that every allegation deserves to be properly investigated and that any practice causing unnecessary suffering to animals is unacceptable. We therefore call upon the Egyptian authorities to ensure that the country’s declared commitments to humane dog population management are fully respected and effectively implemented.

OIPA will continue to closely monitor the situation and will keep the international community informed of further developments and institutional actions.

OIPA ETS  has received an official response from Mexico’s Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) following the organization’s formal communication concerning the alleged use of wild animals for tourist entertainment at Animalandia Maya, a facility located in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.

The authority informed OIPA that it had already been made aware of actions carried out by the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office, with the participation of the Investigative Police and the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security of Playa del Carmen. According to the official communication, these operations included an intervention at the Animalandia Maya facility during which several wild animals were placed under official protection (“asegurados”), in accordance with the federal authorities’ jurisdiction.

PROFEPA further stated that it is currently coordinating actions with the state and municipal authorities involved in the case in order to provide the necessary attention to the wildlife specimens concerned and to carry out all measures within its legal mandate to guarantee their protection and welfare, in accordance with Mexico’s General Wildlife Law and other applicable legislation.

The authority also confirmed that it will continue following the actions related to the protection, safeguarding and conservation of the wildlife species placed under official protection, while pursuing any administrative measures that may fall within its competence in coordination with the relevant institutions.

This official response follows OIPA’s previous appeal, in which the organization urged the competent Mexican authorities to investigate reports concerning the alleged exploitation of wild felines and other wildlife species for tourist entertainment at Animalandia Maya. OIPA had requested an official inspection to verify the conditions in which the animals were being kept and used, following numerous reports, testimonies, photographs and publicly available materials raising concerns about direct interactions between tourists and wild animal cubs.

OIPA welcomes the official response from the Mexican authorities and appreciates the constructive institutional dialogue established on this important matter. The organization will continue to closely monitor developments and remains committed to supporting initiatives aimed at protecting wildlife, promoting animal welfare and encouraging responsible and ethical tourism worldwide.

]]>
OIPA ETS, with the support of its Campaign Ambassador in Croatia, has formally addressed the competent Croatian authorities and relevant European stakeholders to express serious concern over a series of recent animal welfare cases reported in the Republic of Croatia.

Over the past weeks, OIPA has received several reports, together with official documentation, photographic evidence and media coverage, concerning incidents that have raised significant public concern in Croatia and attracted the attention of the international animal welfare community.

The communication refers in particular to three cases. In Bale, Istria, a 21-year-old resident was reportedly arrested in connection with the alleged prolonged starvation and death of two German Shepherd dogs, including one named Sky. According to the information received, local residents had raised concerns before the animals died, raising questions about the effectiveness of preventive intervention mechanisms.

In Dvor na Uni, Croatian investigative media reported the discovery of severely neglected animals, including malnourished dogs and animal carcasses, on a property allegedly operating as an animal shelter. The case has raised concerns regarding the response to previous complaints and the effectiveness of inspection procedures.

In Split, OIPA received documentation concerning the handling and transport of thirteen cats during an eviction procedure. According to the material received, the animals were transported together in a single cage during their transfer to a shelter, raising concerns regarding animal welfare standards and the procedures applied in such cases.

While the circumstances of each case differ, their seriousness and recurrence raise broader concerns regarding the effectiveness of preventive inspections, institutional coordination and the enforcement of existing animal welfare legislation.

Through its institutional communication, OIPA has requested clarification from the competent Croatian authorities regarding the current status of the investigations, the actions undertaken following previous reports submitted by citizens, and the measures being implemented to strengthen preventive controls, inspection procedures and enforcement mechanisms. OIPA has also called for initiatives capable of reinforcing public confidence in the institutions responsible for animal welfare protection.

OIPA  fully respects the independence of Croatian judicial and administrative authorities and does not intend to interfere with ongoing proceedings. However, the organisation stresses that the protection of animals requires not only appropriate legislation, but also its timely, consistent and transparent implementation.

The institutional communication has been sent to the relevant Croatian authorities, including the State Inspectorate, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation, the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Judiciary Committee of the Croatian Parliament. It has also been shared, for information, with the Delegation of the European Union to Croatia, Croatian Members of the European Parliament and Eurogroup for Animals.

As a Member State of the European Union, Croatia is expected to uphold high standards of animal welfare and to ensure that serious allegations of animal cruelty are examined thoroughly and without delay. OIPA  trusts that the competent authorities will treat these reported cases with the utmost seriousness and take all necessary measures to ensure transparency, accountability and the effective enforcement of animal welfare legislation.

Animal welfare is a shared European and international responsibility. Where repeated concerns arise, institutions must respond clearly and decisively to protect animals, restore public confidence and prevent further suffering.

South Korea is preparing to turn the page on a practice that has caused suffering to thousands of animals for decades: the consumption of dog meat. The law adopted in January 2024 prohibits the breeding, slaughtering and sale of dogs for human consumption and will become fully effective in February 2027.

This is a historic step forward for animal protection and an important sign of cultural change. However, as the ban approaches, one urgent question remains: what has happened to the dogs kept in farms and slaughterhouses that are meant to be closed?

According to reports, in 2024 there were an estimated 400,000 to 450,000 dogs being raised for meat. Today, according to data from South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, only around 20,000 remain. This dramatic reduction raises serious concerns about the fate of the animals removed from the system, in the absence of complete data, traceability and sufficiently transparent official information.

Animal welfare organisations have warned that many dogs may have been euthanised, sold, slaughtered or otherwise removed from any possible rescue and rehoming process. Available figures on adoptions and transfers to shelters appear extremely low when compared with the number of animals initially present on farms.

OIPA ETS  welcomes every legislative measure aimed at ending the exploitation of dogs for human consumption. However, OIPA also stresses that a law can only be truly effective if it is accompanied by strict controls, animal traceability, rehoming plans and concrete support for shelters and organisations involved in rescue operations.

The end of the dog meat industry represents a crucial step towards recognising the dignity of animals. Yet no transition can be considered complete if the very animals the law was meant to protect disappear in silence.

OIPA calls on the competent authorities to ensure full transparency regarding the fate of dogs from farms and to guarantee that the phase-out of the industry is managed with respect for the lives and welfare of all animals involved.

Take action: ask for transparency

You can support OIPA’s call by sending a respectful message to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in your country, asking that these concerns be forwarded to the competent authorities in South Korea, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The animal was found on a rooftop entirely covered with bituminous membrane, a surface that can become extremely hot during the summer months. With no adequate shelter and no shaded area where he could escape the heat, the dog was exposed for prolonged periods to very high temperatures, putting his health and life at serious risk.

The intervention was carried out following a report from concerned citizens. The OIPA Zoophile Guards of Naples, coordinated by Provincial Head Nando Cirella, intervened together with the Carabinieri of the Qualiano Station and the Veterinary Service of ASL Napoli 2 Nord.

Once on site, the authorities confirmed the dog’s condition of serious suffering and the concrete danger of heatstroke. In order to ensure his immediate protection and provide him with the veterinary care he needed, the animal was seized.

The owner was reported to the Judicial Authority for animal mistreatment, in accordance with the law in force.

Nando Cirella, Provincial Head of the OIPA Zoophile Guards of Naples, stressed the seriousness of the situation, especially during periods of extreme heat.

“With the high temperatures of these days, forcing a dog to live constantly in a place without shade or adequate shelter means condemning him to certain death,” he said. “We thank the citizens who reported the situation, because their civic responsibility allowed for a timely intervention and helped prevent irreparable consequences for an innocent animal.”

This case is a reminder of the dangers animals face during the summer when they are kept in unsuitable conditions. Lack of shade, poor ventilation and exposure to hot surfaces can quickly lead to dehydration, severe distress and potentially fatal heatstroke.

The operation also highlights the importance of public reporting and the continued work carried out on the ground by the OIPA Zoophile Guards, law enforcement authorities and veterinary services to prevent and combat animal mistreatment.

OIPA ETS reminds everyone that animals must always have access to fresh water, shade and adequate shelter, especially during periods of high temperatures. Any situation of neglect or mistreatment should be promptly reported to the competent authorities.
